Ryan thriving in postsecondary employment

Ryan, a LEAP consumer who has accessed multiple agency services during the past year-plus, recently achieved one of his independent living goals when he was employed by a local Giant Eagle supermarket.

Ryan first became involved with LEAP while a student at Lakewood High School by participating in our summer youth program, which helps young adults with disabilities transition to postsecondary employment or education opportunities.

“LEAP has helped Ryan step by step,” said Stephanie, Ryan’s mom. “Everyone at LEAP is great and helped a lot.”

LEAP supported Ryan by helping him conduct traditional job searches and participate in several interviews. His dedication and hard work paid off when he landed a sanitation position with Giant Eagle in Rock River.

Our support of Ryan has continued on the job. Annie Jones, LEAP’s Manager of Employment Services, helped him adjust to the new role. “Annie was a blessing and a very good coach for him,” said Stephanie.

In addition, Ryan attended travel trainings with Sheila Brown, LEAP’s Youth Transition Specialist, to learn how to safety and effectively navigate public transportation.

Ryan is enjoying his employment and greater independence, proudly sharing that he used some of his earnings to buy a furry ferret as his new pet!

Congratulations, Ryan! LEAP is proud of your recent accomplishments and looks forward to your continued success.
